Additionally, this article offers you an unbiased review of this product along with tips and insights into the desk converter to ensure that you will have all the knowledge you need to confidently make a decision.

Let me show you exactly why I think that this is the most fun, yet ergonomic and functional sit stand desktop converter that I have yet found on the market!

You’ll also develop an understanding of why this product has been purchased so often and received thousands of flattering reviews in spite of sharp competition in the sector.

Let’s stop with the waffle and get right into the all-important details…

Did you know? Sitting for extended periods every day has been attributed to a broad range of negative health consequences, including increased risk of weight gain, diabetes and heart disease.

WorkFit-A dual monitor with worksurface

Product overview

The Ergotron WorkFit-A dual monitor with work surface features in the hover category of standing desk converters and possesses a swinging monitor arm and work surface. It is a premium product designed to a professional grade with a stylish polished aluminium finish. This unit is mounted to an existing sturdy desk to conveniently transform essentially any desk area into a sanctuary where you can swap between sitting and standing.

The design dimensions of this product make it suitable for practically anyone. The Ergotron WorkFit-A dual monitor with work surface is accommodating to a wide range of heights, and it is probably the best standing desk converter for tall people in the hover category. A primary selling point of this standing desk converter is that it can accommodate individuals over 6 foot!

The mounting arm offers greater space efficiency and an unrivalled flexibility to allow you to work from virtually any angle of your desk. This feature complemented by the efficient design of the unit makes it an ideal candidate for anyone working with a limited desk space.

Adjusting the height of the desk converter couldn’t be easier, and it moves in a smooth and silent manner which is a staple feature in all Ergotron products.

Assembly

For some this is a chore, for others, it’s playtime.

Since the unit doesn’t come ready-assembled, there’s a bit of work involved once you take it out of the packaging. Either way, you’ll need to find yourself a trustworthy candidate that you can rely on to set it up, or just get to it yourself.

For those of you who revel in the excitement of constructing items, this should be an enjoyable task; There are step-by-step instructions provided to assist you along the way. I also found an excellent video tutorial on adjusting the tension which I’ll share here too; you might find it easier to follow.

But before you start…

While the unit isn’t the heaviest in the range of standing desk converters, it would be advisable to have a second person available for the section where you lift the workstation onto the desk. It will be particularly helpful too for the second person to hold the arm in place while you screw it into place.

There are a set of tools required for installing the item that you’ll need to get, including:

1. Phillips screwdriver

2. Wrench (8mm)

Some reviewers have taken up to 90 minutes to assemble this unit due to fine-tuning the tension and settings on the unit, so bear this in mind before you commence installation.

Once the unit is assembled and secured to the table, the cables can be looped through the tidy cable management system. Final checks include ensuring that the tension is adequate, the unit is secure and moving the monitor arm to determine if it adjusts smoothly in a range of directions and positions.

Next, position your computer equipment accessories and stationery on the unit. Once all that’s done, you should be good to go!

Tip: Ensure the area that you position the arm has adequate clearance for it to manoeuvre without coming into contact with item or walls in the vicinity.

Height Range

Some sit stand desk converters have a limited range of height adjustability, which can create ergonomic issues for taller people, especially when the individual ends up having to deviate their neck so that they can view the monitor. Fortunately, this product can accommodate heights of 6’2” and possibly taller, depending on the height of the desk that you work from!

This product boasts being able to achieve one of the greatest height ranges in the group of Workfit adjustable arm products, and indeed many competitor products too. The height range of the standing adjustable is 51 centimeters (20 inches) vertically, which should be sufficient for the majority of heights.

But just in case that’s not sufficient, the monitors can independently adjust a further 5 inches (13 cm) higher, which is a bonus point in terms of ergonomics.

The mechanism for adjusting the height and swivel of this standing desk converter couldn’t be easier. There’s no need for hand levers, cranking or locking mechanisms. Simply grab the keyboard tray and move it to your desired position.

Tip: When moving the monitors, always endeavour to keep the top of the monitor in line with your eyes, regardless of whether you’re standing or sitting. This will ensure you adopt a more neutral posture and avoid deviating your body to see the screen.

Adjustable arm

According to several reviewers, this Ergotron WorkFit-A dual monitor with work surface is one of the most adjustable desktop converters that they have ever encountered!

The flexible arm offers users the opportunity to adjust the monitors in what seems like an endless range of motions. In a horizontal plane, the arm can extend 42 inches / 106.68 cm from the back and retract 18.25 inches / 46.36 cm. On top of that, you can also:

1. Move monitors inwards and outwards

2. Swivel side to side

3. Tilt side to side

4. Rotate the monitors 360 degrees

Heck, you can twist your monitors around and show the office your work. You can even practically move cubicle and work from there!

At the beginning of this article, I mentioned how adjustable, fun and functional this unit is. Well, let me show you just how much fun you can have with it once it’s set up:

Compact Design

The efficient design of this standing desk converter is an excellent feature which allows the unit to be positioned in even the smallest of spaces. The fact that the workstation can be mounted to the rear or side of the desk allows for greater choice when deciding where you want the unit to sit.

Some mounting arms don’t accommodate side mounting, so the flexible mounting location even offers more opportunity for cramped work spaces to use this unit. This is especially true if the layout of the area is more suited to being mounted to a side of the desk as opposed to the rear. This tidy mounting arm also contributes to the compact footprint that the product consumes.

In terms of footprint…

How much footprint you use really depends on the position that you place the monitor arm in. Obviously if you extend the arm to the greatest length possible and use it straight on, you will need approximately 2 feet of extra space behind you as the monitor will push you backwards.

Alternatively, if you intend to work close to the desk, you can fold the arm up and work flush with the desk. When folded, there will need to be adequate clearance for the arm at the back of the monitors.

Unlike many standing desk products, the Ergotron WorkFit-A dual monitor with work surface can be moved out of your way to completely free up your whole desk for whatever tasks you need to complete.

Monitors

This desk converter offers you the ability to hold dual monitors. That combined with the work space means that you’ll be able to fit the items you need neatly without overburdening the unit or making it look cramped.

The unit can accommodate 2 monitors that are up to 24 inches each. If you enjoy the freedom to manoeuvre the monitors to a particular angle, then you’ll love the enhanced personalisation features that can be achieved with the 180 degrees pan and impressive 360 degrees rotation of the monitors.

But wait, there’s more…

Moreover, the monitors can be independently raised to an extra 5 inches (13 cm) higher than the keyboard and work surface, a useful element for taller individuals or those who prefer or require a greater clearance distance between the monitors and work surface.

The WorkFit-A comes in several variations including an alternative workstation which can hold a single monitor. This might be better suited if you don’t own 2 monitors or plan to hold a monitor and laptop from the arm.

Tip: The convert to LCD and laptop kit allows alternative displays to be achieved, e.g., a monitor arm which can hold a monitor and laptop side-by-side instead of 2 monitors.

Work space

The work surface moves in tandem with the whole unit, and there’s a clearance of about 5.75 inches between the keyboard tray and the work surface. There should be no hassle with the work surface holding the day-to-day stationery, phones or gadgets as it can bear a weight load of 5 lbs or 2.2 kg. I wouldn’t recommend leaning on top of the surface though!

The work surface area is generously spacious at 22.63 x 9.75 inches / 57.5 x 25 cm. It’s also pretty deep meaning that you can perch some stationary or gadgets, such as your phone (or your cherished cup of tea or coffee) on there.

It’s worth noting that the work surface tray is locked in position and can’t be independently moved inwards or outwards. However, as I mentioned above, the monitors can achieve 5-inches of independent clearance from the keyboard tray and work surface if you feel you need it.

Keyboard

With 5.75 inches of clearance between the work surface and the keyboard tray, that provides you with plenty of area to type without running the risk of hitting off anything. The keyboard surface is thankfully pretty spacious too with 27 x 10.7 inches / 68 x 27 cm of area.

This offers you ample room to hold a full-sized keyboard (or even an over-sized keyboard) and mouse in a centered position. Mouse space is also plentiful, meaning you can comfortably glide around the surface with ease. Additionally, there are no side walls or front plates to restrict your movement while typing.

The keyboard is angled with a 3 degrees upward tilt to promote a neutral wrist posture. It also enhances your comfort and productivity while you type!

A convenient feature of the keyboard tray is the ability to fold it 90 degrees so that it rests perpendicular to the work surface. When it’s not in use, you can flip it up and save space. This becomes particularly useful for storage of the unit as it’s one less component sticking out.

The primary concern highlighted by reviewers with this product is the stability of the keyboard. It is rather sensitive to force, so if you are a heavy typist and you intend to type while standing, you may notice that the unit bounces as you type. This could be a non-issue if you are a gentle typist, or you plan to stand at the desk for conference calls or reading documents.

Cable management

Avoid the cable chaos!

A welcome feature of the mounting pillar is the integrated cable management system. All the necessary cables can be looped from your monitor and keyboard into various pathways underneath the monitor arm; these are conveniently secured in place with the nylon sleeve and cable ties provided by Ergotron for a neat work area. So, less risk exists of becoming entangled in cables.

Tip: Ensure you allow adequate slack for the cables to have full range of motion when the unit is being adjusted.

Verdict

There’s no denying that the Ergotron WorkFit-A dual monitor with work surface is a premier product. As is standard with practically all the WorkFit products, this unit is attractive, ergonomic and reliable; it also features some clever characteristics that other competitors don’t possess.

The sizeable height range of this monitor makes it an ideal product for anyone, especially those of a taller stature. The cable management system is also a practical feature as minimises irritating cables cluttering up the desk.

It should be more than adequate for a person who intends to use this on a daily basis or indeed share it with family, friends or colleagues.

There are some basic, yet vital criteria that I require a sit-stand desk converter to have, these include:

  • Being able to lean on or write on the unit without it swaying or toppling over.
  • Having adequate space when typing or using the unit.
  • Ensuring that the keyboard or other components do not push me away from the monitor.
  • Ensuring the unit can reach the necessary heights so I do not have to deviate my posture.
  • Being easily adjustable without causing excessive noise or struggling to raise or lower the height due to the weight.
  • Being reasonably affordable.
  • Having a good warranty.
  • Having good reviews on the product.

I can honestly say that the Ergotron WorkFit-A dual monitor with work surface has met almost all of these criteria. It’s an outstanding solution for those who want to convert their work area into a healthy sit stand station with an existing desk.

The degree of motion is honestly mind-blowing, and I could see myself having so much fun trying out the various positions. I believe it would also be extremely practical when showing items to colleagues or people by simply twisting the arm in their direction.

The stability of the unit while typing in a standing position is an area of concern. Another watch out, which could realistically be tolerated, includes the fact that there is an element of installation required for this hover unit to function. While some might see this as playtime, others may find that daunting or inconvenient.

Other than that, it really ticks the box for those who need something functional, ergonomic and capable of holding 2 monitors.

Would I recommend it to a friend or family member?

Yes, but I would highlight to them the potential stability issues that they may encounter.
