Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView WorkSpace review

I wrote this Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView WorkSpace review because, like many of you reading this today, I couldn’t find one online! In this article, I walk you step-by-step through each important component of this mobile height adjustable computer cart so that you can make an educated decision regarding whether this digital desk is suitable for your needs and desires.

We are now in an era where sit stand work spaces are available in portable options. It couldn’t have come at a better time either, especially considering how much research is mounting regarding the adverse health effects surrounding a sedentary lifestyle. Thankfully, with the advent of portable podiums, you can escape your desk and being confined to both a seated position, and also a stationary desk location.

And let’s be honest…

Who doesn’t want the freedom of alternating between sitting and standing along with easily gliding between different areas with your computer and equipment?

Don’t have the time or patience to read a thorough analysis?

Worry not, as I’ve got you covered with a quick visual summary (you could call it a cheat sheet) of the product at the very beginning and end of this article.

As a bonus, and as is customary in all my articles, I’ll treat you to some captivating facts, tips and tricks that you won’t find anywhere.

So, let’s get started…

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView WorkSpace review

Carrying work equipment, such as laptops and documents, can lead to holding excess loads, unnecessary bending, fatigue and back pain which can easily be evaded by using a mobile trolley.

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView Product Overview

The Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView WorkSpace features in the portable height adjustable computer cart category. You may have come across some of the Neo-Flex sister products which are simply variations of each other in terms of weight capacity, number of monitors it can hold etc.

This model can be utilized in many environments where computing needs to be portable. So, when you think about it, you could use it in an endless number of environments, whether as a:

  • medical or IT equipment kiosk
  • crash cart
  • mobile equipment trolley
  • video recording cart
  • lecture podium
  • focal point for group meetings
  • portable digital desk
  • home office desk for working, studying and everything in between

In a couple of words, it’s a cart with a work surface, dual monitors – and it moves on wheels; what more could you want!

Or, if you prefer, use it as a portable TV screen for your home. I could picture myself wheeling it out to the kitchen so I can watch cooking tutorials while I make them. What creative purpose could you use it for?

This work platform features a monitor post to hold between 1 – 2 screens and a compact work space directly beneath it. These elements are height adjustable to accommodate a person in both standing or sitting positions. This mobile cart sits on a set of 4 castors and a riser post which enables a range of adjustable heights.

Some of the highlight features include the compact shape, flexible open architecture to facilitate a range of various digital components along with a simplistic design for easy use. There are also a multitude of accessories for you to choose from which can augment your ergonomic experience and increase storage and customization of the unit.

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView Assembly

Have your toolkit at the ready, it’s time to exercise that engineering part of your brain that’s equipped to assemble stuff.

Don’t be worried though as you’re provided with directions to guide you through the task. From examining the assembly instructions, the installation seems manageable, even for those of us less comfortable with constructing furniture. There are even smiley emoji faces to steer you in the right direction – I kid you not! They might also lift your spirits if you’re averse to the assembling process!

Before you begin, the below tools should be sourced as they are required to assemble it:

  1. Scissors
  2. Phillips screwdriver
  3. Long reach (> 9 inches / 22.9 cm) Phillips screwdriver
  4. 8 mm socket wrench
  5. 14 mm drive socket
  6. 19 mm wrench
  7. Drill
  8. Measuring tape

The primary sections in the instructions include screwing the casters to the base, connecting the CPU (if you have one, that is; if not, simply skip this step), monitors and work surface into place. Following that, the last few steps include looping the cables by means of cable ties through the cable management system along with adjusting the positioning and tension on the monitors and post.

Once the cart is built and it is safe and secure, all that’s left is to place your equipment on the cart, make any necessary amendments to the height to suit your posture, and of course, the testing wouldn’t be a complete without bringing it for a spin!

Tip: Keep the tools provided in the box, such as the security wrench, which might be required in future to adjust the tension of the unit.

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView Height Range

The height range of this mobile standing desk is 20 inches / 51 cm vertically, which should be adequate for most people up to around 5 foot 5 inches in height; for anyone above that height, they may find that they have to deviate their neck while standing to see the screen. Although if you don’t intend to view the monitor too often in a standing position, this might be of little concern to you.

If you are in need of a product with more height range, the sister Neo-Flex LCD cart and the Ergotron TeachWell product both achieve a greater range of height (27 inches or more).

Varying between sitting and standing positions is a flawless procedure due to the Constant Force lift technology. There’s no bothering with hand levers, noisy or cranking locking mechanisms; boasting a one-touch adjustment feature, you simply raise or lower it until you reach to your favored height simply by grabbing a hold of the work surface.

Tip: When writing or typing, your arms should be at a 90-degree angle, irrespective of whether you are seated or standing up. This helps avoid niggling pains developing and deviating your posture.

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView Dimensions

The compact footprint of this standing mobile desk is a welcome attribute which enables the cart to be situated in compact areas. This also makes it much easier to glide between busy corridors, rooms, offices or even store the unit in confined areas within a room.

The work surface dimensions (16.5 x 14 inches / 42 x 36 cm) are narrower than those of the base footprint dimensions (17 x 20.5 inches / 43 x 52 cm). However, the size of the dual monitors together can extend as much as 42 inches / 108 cm. Therefore, this region consumes the most space and adequate clearance should be provided to accommodate it.

They mouse tray does extend out to consume extra footprint at the side of the work surface; fortunately, this tray can easily be pushed under the work surface during transport or storage for convenience.

Tip: Ensure there is sufficient clearance in the area you travel to prevent impact with items or walls, or people.

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView Work Surface

The counter top dimensions offer you a compact 17 x 20.5 inches / 43 x 52 cm of space to function with. It serves as an integrated worktop and keyboard tray. To put the size into perspective, it could fit an average sized laptop, so those of you who enjoy working from a keyboard separate to your laptop will need to bear this in mind if you also intend to store a laptop here – you can’t fit both.

The size constraints also restrict your ability to rest your wrists on the work surface. Unfortunately, we need to dock an ergonomic brownie point for that. However, it’s not an issue if you don’t intend to type much throughout the day.

If you feel you could benefit from some added space for storage, there are accessories that can be used to store ancillary items that you might need; I’ve listed a few examples below to give you a flavour of what’s available:

  • large shelves: capable of withstanding up to 8 lbs / 3.8 kg or the equivalent of a projector.
  • baskets: can withstand weights up to 5 lbs / 2.3 kg, e.g., notepads, chargers etc.
  • storage hooks: capable of holding bags, charts or light equipment up to 20 lbs / 9.1 kg.

In total, the whole cart can withstand 11 – 46 lbs / 5 – 20.9 kg, which is an impressive increase from the Neo-Flex, which can withstand 26 lbs / 11.8 kg. The 11 lbs / 5 kg weight threshold applies when using dual monitors. If you only have a single monitor attached, your weight capacity increases up to 46 lbs / 20.9 kg.

This is broken down into weight limits for various components. For instance, the screens have a total capacity of 6 – 14 lbs / 2.7 – 6.4 kg per display or 12 – 28 lbs / 5.4 – 12.8 kg in total, the work surface offers a weight capacity of 3 lbs / 1.4 kg, which is sufficient for light books or stationery; the cable storage box can hold 2 lbs / 0.9 kg.

Note that the Neo-Flex is not intended for holding heavy equipment. Also, please beware that the weight load is on the lower scale of the weight capacity spectrum. With that in mind, don’t expect it to be able to hold you leaning heavily on it or carrying heavy equipment.

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView Mouse Tray

The mouse tray is positioned adjacent to the work surface and provides a comfortable amount of space to fit and move your mouse. It’s certainly a welcome feature since space is already going to be completely consumed if you use the worktop for storing your laptop.

I know I for one, don’t mind using the touch pad on the laptop, but others may prefer to have a separate mouse, and fortunately for you lucky people, this is where the mouse tray works a charm.

A nifty feature is that the mouse tray can be pushed under the work surface. Additionally, you left-handed people out there are catered for too as the mouse tray is compatible with being used on both the left and right side of the worktop.

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView Mobility

This mobile desk is relatively lightweight, weighing in at 54.1 lbs / 26.4 kg. The weight feels even lighter due to the 4 premium dual casters provided. They boast the ability to grant you a smooth journey while moving the digital desk between locations.

There are 2 lockable front casters fitted which are intended to hold the cart in place and avoid unwanted movement while you use it. This is also valuable if you are on unlevel surfaces or floors with a smooth finish, e.g., wooden floors, tiles.

The premium dual casters should leave no scuff marks on your precious floors; the dual casters are also credited with reducing friction and floor scrubbing to ensure the experience of moving the trolley around is flawless. The manufacturers also boast that you should have no grievances or difficulties moving across carpet or flooring either.

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView Cable Management

The cable management system comprises of a cable management box along with space within the centre post for routing the cabling.

It utilizes cable attachment points along with zip ties to neatly secure your wires along the main column. The cable management box is mounted underneath the work surface, thus ensuring that it is kept in a protected location out of your way; it’s also near enough to the computer that it can comfortably reach the storage area without creating an unnecessarily long wire trail.

There is also a power strip mounting bracket accessory which can neatly house a large extension lead and the associated cabling along the side of the main column.

All of these elements combined ensures that there are no trailing cables that could pose a trip hazard or be trampled over as you move your computer trolley from A to B.

Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView LCD Mount

If you need a mobile cart that can hold 2 monitors up to 22 inches each, then this could be the trolley for you! This feature boasts some valuable benefits; the total height adjustability of the monitor amounts to 20 inches / 51 cm. The cart is lacking in independent height adjustment, which means that you’ll have to resolve to using monitors and a worktop that move in tandem.

Although it doesn’t feature the traditional adjustable tilt function for the monitors, it’s not a total write-off as you can arrange them at a set tilt of 3.5 degrees or 8.5 degrees in the upward position to optimize your view and comfort.

The ability to pan left and right by is also absent in this unit. But you can achieve 90 degrees of screen rotation to enable alternating between portrait and landscape views.

Verdict

The Ergotron Neo-Flex Dual WideView WorkSpace is a valuable and rugged sit stand product that also offers features to promote ergonomics, functionality and mobility.

The nifty storage system for your cables and power sockets is a simple, yet effective features that enable you to work in a neat and safer manner. The innovative open architecture designed into this desk cleverly can easily accommodate future technology upgrades.

The applications of this product are ideal for multiple environments, whether it’s a technology hub, mobile digital desk, a platform for delivering presentations or meetings, a hospital trolley for navigating busy corridors, or as a call desk that can be moved between various places, then this product can certainly deliver.

Potential downfalls for this mobile computer unit are thankfully limited. From an ergonomic perspective, the work surface size is going to be restrictive for people who plan to position a laptop here as their wrists won’t have anywhere to rest. The screens are also limited to just 90 degrees of rotation.

Those points aside, it’s still an impressive unit which would be a functional asset to any home or work environment. Although I probably wouldn’t invest in it myself due to the compact work space, that’s not to say it wouldn’t be appropriate for another application. If you do anticipate that you’ll need more work area or you would prefer more space, then keep an eye out further on in the article as I’ll leave a link down below to a product which I think will do the trick!

The below list offers you an insight into the aspects that I consider when reviewing standing mobile trolleys:

  • Being able to lean on or write on the unit without it swaying or toppling over.
  • Having adequate space when typing or using the unit.
  • Ensuring that the keyboard or other components do not push me away from the monitor.
  • Ensuring the unit can reach the necessary heights so I do not have to deviate my posture.
  • Being easily adjustable without causing excessive noise or struggling to raise or lower the height due to the weight.
  • Being reasonably affordable.
  • Having a good warranty.
  • Having good reviews on the product.

Based on reviewing the product, this unit meets 75% my list of criteria.

Would I recommend it to a friend or family member?

I sure would, especially for someone looking for a compact, rugged standing portable desk or for situations where computing needs to be mobilized.
