Product overview

The Ergotron Workfit corner standing desk converter is particularly designed with corner desks or corner cubicles in mind. It utilises the extra space that is normally made redundant by furniture and equipment stationed on corner desks; consequently, the user is treated to not only a larger work surface, but it also features the largest keyboard platform in the whole range of WorkFit converters!

With minimal effort, you can transform any desk into a sit stand work space without need for excessive cost or desk space. Furthermore, this unit is extremely easy to adjust the height of. It simply glides up and down with a simple squeeze of the hand-brake levers.

The benefits of standing desks are broad and many, and include reducing your risk of diabetes, obesity, cancer and even premature death. Plus, it also burns more calories than sitting!

Minimal assembly

These units are almost too easy to set up!

This unit boasts a welcome out of the box installation benefit. Simply place the ready-assembled unit on top of your current desk and hook up your computer equipment, and you’re pretty much good to go.

And hey presto!

Just like that, you have a sit stand converter for your corner desk that grants you complete freedom to adjust your position as often as you like the whole day long. The height of the desk converter is operated by means of a hand brake lever. There are also a range of in-position lock settings.

To give you a taster of just how easily these sit-stand units can be setup, here’s a quick video demonstrating exactly that:

Height Range

A common issue encountered by consumers is that the height range of standing desk converters doesn’t extend far enough to accommodate their height. This can create ergonomic issues for taller people as the unit may cause them to crouch or strain their neck downwards to see the screen.

The height range of the standing desk converter is 30 cm (15 inches) which should be more than adequate for the 95th percentile of heights. The taller clientele will be pleased to hear that this unit is also accommodating to people over 6 foot tall.

Some sites even claim it is suitable for those towering to about 6 foot 7 inches in height!

It’s relatively easy to raise and lower the height too despite the weight of equipment that the desk converter may be bearing. This will be welcome news for those suffering from various conditions which could make it difficult to adjust the height if force was required, e.g., arthritis, musculoskeletal disorders, back pain etc.

Tip: Utilising a high desk can overcome this issue if you encounter it with your current standing desk converter.

Compact Design

The compact design of the standing desk converter is an excellent feature which allows the unit to be positioned in even the smallest of corner cubicles or desks while cunningly making use of previously unusable space.

This Ergotron Workfit corner standing desk converter remains within the original footprint. To explain that in more detail, when the height is adjusted, the unit moves in a vertical direction as opposed to upwards and outwards.

Ok, but what good is that?

Picture yourself sitting in the driver seat of a car. You want to move the height of the steering wheel upwards, but when you do, the steering wheel moves not only upwards, but also inwards towards you. Now imagine that when this happens, the steering wheel is so close to you that you have to push the car seat back and you now struggle to reach the pedals. Consequently, you have to strain your body to push on the gas.

Essentially in terms of this table, for you it means that the table does not use up extra space by moving up and out, it stays within the original dimensions and therefore valuable space that you require is not consumed. Additionally, no extra clearance is needed for the unit to move.

Furthermore, if you’re working in a cubicle or at a desk where there are items hanging from the walls, you’re less likely to impact on them. The cherry on top of all of this is that when the keyboard is moved in or out, it does not push you backwards and cause you to deviate your posture.

Monitors

With some units, the monitors either has to sit on the standing desk converter, be attached to the standing desk converter or attached to the desk that the standing desk converter rests on. This can become challenging and frustrating when your monitors start taking up valuable space.

This corner desk offers you the space to accommodate either single or dual monitors or even a monitor and laptop. Fortunately, the added work surface depth comes in useful here, especially if you’re using 2 monitors positioned on the desk.

Furthermore, the uniquely curved design allows you to position wider monitors on the work surface at an angle, which is certainly a welcome feature for those of you who possess large monitors.

You can even rotate each of the screens to an impressive 360 degrees. It comes in super convenient when someone scans you a document upside down!

Another point to consider is that if the monitors or laptop are sitting on the workstation, it adds to the load limit. Consequently, you will have less ability to add items which could impact on the load limit. With this Ergotron desk converter, you have the choice of these three options:

1. Attach the monitors to the standing desk.

2. Attach the monitors to the table.

3. Sit the monitors on the standing desk converter.

If you choose option 1 or 2, this can be achieved by means of a single or dual monitor kit. It’s an effective way to free up some work space on the unit.

Tip: There’s even an LCD and laptop accessory kit which will hold the monitor and laptop side-by-side.

Extremely spacious

If space is something you’re looking for, then this desktop won’t disappoint. The unit offers a roomy 36 x 23 inches on the primary work surface. This should be more than enough space for you to perform your tasks, even with 2 monitors positioned on the work surface.

You’ll be pleased to discover that the same feature applies to the keyboard tray. A common complaint with workstations is that there is either no keyboard tray or the keyboard tray is very compact. If you have a full-size keyboard, this issue becomes particularly prevalent.

Small keyboard trays can result in users becoming confined to a small space while they type. Furthermore, the amount of area available to move the mouse is consequently limited, and users may have to operate the mouse in a tight space.

With this unit, you can rest assured that there’s an abundance of space available. In fact, so much so that you can even centre the position of your keyboard on the surface.

Picture your hand gliding smoothly across the work surface with your mouse in hand. Now, imagine yourself not having a worry in the world that your hand will bang into the adjoining work surface. Finally, think about the comfort and efficiency you’ll experience from the smooth, quality wide surface and saying goodbye to cramped hands from operating in a tight space.

Verdict

My overall impression of this product parallels my general opinion of all Ergotron products. A high-end, reliable, professional and beautifully designed piece of engineering. With so many gimmicky items out there that are flimsy, weak, cheap and inadequately designed, it truly pays to have a bit of comfort and a product that you can rely on.

You’ve already seen my favourite features in the highlights section above. As for the negatives, the faults on this unit are minimal, in fact they are a non-issue for me. Although for those of you who desire a tilting keyboard, that may be something to bear in mind.

Other than that, I’m more that satisfied that this unit would improve my posture and elevate my comfort levels to never before achieved heights!

So many of the factors that often lead to issues seem to have been recognised by the engineers and supremely well-designed out of the product. Additionally, it meets the below simple, yet fundamental criteria that I expect from a sit-stand desk converter:

  • Being able to lean on or write on the unit without it swaying or toppling over.
  • Having adequate space when typing or using the unit.
  • Ensuring that the keyboard or other components do not push me away from the monitor.
  • Ensuring the unit can reach the necessary heights so I do not have to deviate my posture.
  • Being easily adjustable without causing excessive noise or struggling to raise or lower the height due to the weight.
  • Being reasonably affordable.
  • Having a good warranty.
  • Having good reviews on the product.

I can safely say that the Ergotron Workfit corner standing desk converter workstation ticks the box, so this desk converter gets a big thumbs up from me!

What’s more, I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest this to a friend or family member, which says everything really!
